}} Mats Julian Hummels ((:ˈmats ˈhʊməls); born 16 December 1988) is a German footballer who plays as a central defender for Borussia Dortmund, for which he is the current captain, and the German national team. He came through the Bayern Munich youth academy before joining his current club on loan in January 2008 and officially signing for Dortmund in February 2009 for €4 million. He signed his first professional contract on 19 December 2006, until 2010.
